The House passed the Republican Health Care Bill that would “roll back state-by-state expansions of Medicaid, which covered millions of low-income Americans” and, subject to states’ waiver rights, “would let insurers charge higher premiums for customers with pre-existing medical conditions” even though the vote “occurred before the Congressional Budget Office had released a new analysis of the revised bill with its cost and impact.” NY Times There was widespread opinion that many House Republicans who passed the GOP Health Care Bill have now risked losing their seats. President Trump signed an executive order that “directs the IRS not to take “adverse action” against churches and other tax-exempt religious organizations participating in political activity that stops short of an endorsement of a candidate for office”, which seems more symbolic of his intent to weaken the law passed by Congress in 1954 (the Johnson Amendment) prohibiting 501(c)(3) organizations from engaging in political campaign intervention activities. Congress passed a bipartisan $1.1 trillion spending bill, avoiding a government shutdown through the end of the fiscal year ending September 30. CBS News
