San Francisco Foundation Center – Free Form 990 Seminar – March 17

My friend and tax-reporting expert Terry Miller is giving a FREE seminar on What Your 990 Says About You!  The seminar will be held at the San Francisco Foundation Center Library on Tuesday, March 17 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  I urge all local charities who have not attended any seminars on the new Form 990 to attend.  The Form 990 has gone through substantial revision and will be difficult ground for charities that attempt to file it for the first time.  And don't think you can just delegate this to your CPAs.  With much more required in the way of narrative information, charities need to manage this process.  Remember, the Form 990 may be one of your most important marketing tools.

Here's what the Foundation Center has to say about the seminar:

Getting ready to file the new Form 990? Do you really know what your current Form 990 says about your organization? If someone unfamiliar with your organization reviews it, what will they think? Since 990s are publicly available, potential donors could be looking you up right now. Learn from a nonprofit tax-reporting expert about what others, like foundation program officers or individual donors, might glean from a review of your 990 and ways to avoid sending the wrong message. This is an interactive workshop so it is required that you bring your 990 to share with others; a good portion will be practicing with your new eyes. This process will strengthen your understanding and your approach to the new Form 990.
